What is Industrial Rope Access?
Industrial rope access is a cost effective and safe alternative to traditional access methods such as scaffolding and hydraulic hoists. Based on techniques used in caving and climbing, it is also a versatile way to get to otherwise inaccessible areas.
However, unlike climbing, caving, or the methods employed by steeplejacks, industrial rope access is extremely safe due to the system of double attachments used.
IRATA
IRATA, the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association, governs the professional rope access industry. They are responsible for the registration of technicians and providing the independent assessors who ensure that standards of training are maintained.
Under the HSE endorsed IRATA Guidelines there are three levels of qualification:
Level One – Technician
Level Two – Lead Technician
Level Three – Supervisor
These are the only qualifications recognised within industrial rope access.
